When we finished the "session", she said "I want to give you a hug. I have never done anything like this before, but I want you to know how much I enjoyed it and special it was to be a part of the experience."
She was one of 25 breast cancer survivors gathered for a weekend at the state park, bonding because of their similar experiences, and because they are all courageous women who know they can have creative lives ahead of them.
They inspire me and I owe a big thanks to them, rather them to me, for giving me the opportunity to share music together. I did not ask if any were musicians before we started...it didn't matter.
They made music out of objects, handmade instruments, sang together, and relaxed together.
We are all survivors today!
